🦋 Personality

  1. What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
  2. The siren would sing the Hymn of the Fayth. Rikku has both negative and positive feelings about this song: on the one hand, it's a symbol of the religion that oppressed and shunned her people for over a thousand years; on the other, it's what her father and brother sang as a last tribute to their Home before blowing it up to destroy hundreds of fiends. It's also a reminder of her cousin, Yuna, and the harrowing pilgrimage she undertook that Rikku fundamentally disagreed with, but joined anyway in an attempt to keep her cousin safe. Every temple they visited across Spira was haunted by that song, which she hated, but in the end, it was something that helped them defeat Sin. For her, the song is sung in defiance of Yevon, even if the clergy co-opted it for the religion. Despite her mixed feelings, curiosity and nostalgia would draw her to follow the song to the source.

  3. If there's one person your character would follow to another realm, who would it be and why? If there's no one, state that and explain why.
  4. Rikku would follow her cousin Yuna to the ends of the earth (which she’s already done twice). Rikku’s loyalty has been, and always will be, to her family first. Growing up in the confines of Home, she spent the majority of her time with her father and brother, learning from and with them about machina. This is the environment in which she learned about her cousin, Yuna, and she clearly grew to love her even though she probably never met her until she found her at the Moonflow. This strong family environment is what drove Rikku to find Yuna in the middle of her pilgrimage. Rikku’s love for her family is deep-set and central to her personality. She spends the entire portion of pilgrimage she’s present for scheming how to either save Yuna’s life or convince her to give up the journey that will lead to her death. During the Eternal Calm, Rikku gladly welcomes Yuna to the ranks of the Gullwings, both to stay close to her cousin in order to keep an eye on her and also make sure she has fun after the hardship of losing Tidus two years prior. Given the opportunity (or even if she has to make the opportunity herself), she’ll do almost anything for her family, especially Yuna.

  5. If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?
  6. Due to political differences regarding the use of machina, the Al Bhed have always been at odds with pretty much all the rest of Spira. However, this tension never amounted to more than skirmishes after the machina war 1000 years before the events of the first game--until the Guado attack Home, the Al Bhed's stronghold on the desert-island of Bikanel. The Guado release fiends into Home, destroying the city and killing countless Al Bhed. Rikku is horrified at the destruction, and doesn't know how to cope with the death of so many loved ones and the destruction of the only place she ever called Home. She becomes more invested in the pilgrimage after the group escapes, if only so she can get revenge on the Guado for killing her people (revenge she doesn't have the darkness inside her to carry out). Though she also becomes more invested in building bridges between the Al Bhed and the rest of Spira, hoping to ensure that this kind of tragedy will never happen again, it is a long road for her to get there. If Home was never destroyed completely, if just a little bit of it was left standing so the Al Bhed could reclaim it at a later date, Rikku might not hold such bitterness in her heart for the Guado and the kind of religious fanaticism that led them to destroy it. She might be a little more forgiving to anyone she thinks has wronged her or her people, and most of all, she wouldn’t hold the pain of her people’s deaths so close to her heart because it wouldn’t feel as if they’d died in vain.

  7. What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
  8. She is hopeful and optimistic nearly to a fault. When Home is destroyed, she explains how her father, Cid, had dreamed that the Al Bhed could all live together in one place again after their first Home was destroyed, and she had shared that dream. She just wants them all to be one, big, happy family again, and is that too much to ask? She believes that she and Tidus can find a way to keep Yuna from dying, even as she continues on her trek for the Final Aeon and Yuna’s death looms ever closer. In X-2, she never stops believing that Vegnagun can be destroyed, as long as YRP and Spira stick together. Her optimism is what makes her a valuable member of the Guardians in X (she decides to be “the merriest”), and what acts as a necessary foil to Paine’s pragmatic nature in X-2. No matter the situation, no matter how high the odds are stacked against her, Rikku will always believe there is a way to turn the situation around.
